Wagons for passenger transport - Leichtstahlwagen

The Leichtstahlwagen of the Swiss federal Railways were unique in many ways, but most people will recognise the sleek, aerodynamic, low-rider look, which is the hallmark of the is wagon type.

The Leichtstahlwagen project was the first attempt at a truly modern standardised all welded all steel wagon and its successful outcome became the spring board for a general update of all SBB rolling stock.

Leichtstahlwagen in the make:

The meshes for the first flight of Leichtstahlwagen have already been tested in-game, but they still lack to be properly mapped and LOD'ed before they are ready to be released. The only one still under construction is the cab control unit.

First planned release:

SBB Epoche IIIa (mid fifties) i.e. following the "great revision" where the old 3rd class was abolished.

  • 1st class
  • 1st/2nd class
  • 2nd class
  • Bahnpostwagen (mail coach)
  • Gepäckwagen (luggage coach)
  • Steuerwagen (cab control unit)

Later on we will offer the versions matching the times before and after as well. The first Leichtstahlwagen were introduced in the early forties and the last ones left SBB service in the late nineties, so we have quite a wide timeframe not to mention the palette of different types within the main wagon categories.
The mail and luggage coaches remained pretty much the same, but the passenger coaches came in at least twenty different varieties. We are looking at small varieties in the door arrangements over wooden tram style seats to the exotic four and five axle Michelin bogies complete with tires like the Paris Metro

Matching locomotives:
  • Epoche IIIa: Re 4/4-I, Fe 4/4
  • Epoche IIIb: Re 4/4-I, Re 4/4-II, Fe 4/4
  • Epoche IV: Re 4/4-I, Re 4/4-II, Re 4/4-III, Fe 4/4
