Wagons for passenger transport - Einheitswagen Typ 1

The Einheitswagen I (EW I) is the successor of the Leichtstahlwagen of the Swiss federal Railways. They were built between 1956 and 1967 and originally came in SBB green. The wagons weighed from 28 to 32 tonnes and were cleared for a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

You cannot have a post WWII Swiss layout without EW I's since alone the 2nd class version numbered 1028 units. All in all some 1330 EW I's were built, so it is indeed ubiquitous.

The EW I and its successor the EW II underwent a number of upgrades during their long lifespan, and the wagons which initially were intended for internal Swiss use only, gradually adopted a lot of the standard features laid down in the UIC charter. Also a number of outdated components were changed underway. Most noticeable the "accordions" which were exchanged for tubular rubber fenders and a slightly longer end section, and the at least four different liveries.

Einheitswagen I in the make:

The meshes for the first EW I's have been tested in-game, but they still lack to be properly LOD'ed before they are ready to be released. Presently only the 1st and 2nd class units are driveable, which leaves luggage, mail and cab control units outstanding.

First planned release:

SBB Epoche V (nineties) New Look.

  • 1st class
  • 1st/2nd class
  • 2nd class
  • Speisewagen (dinner wagon)
  • Bahnpostwagen (mail coach)
  • Gepäckwagen (luggage coach)
  • Steuerwagen three types (cab control unit)

Later on we will offer the versions matching the times before and after as well. Especially the early versions and the latest "self service" versions will be different. The latter due to their revised doors and distinctive white and blue livery. The earlier EW I's given the "accordions" and the non computer numbering.
They will match the planned Einheitslokomotive Re 4/4 I perfectly, enabling the user to create some of the more exotic consists that are so uniquely Swiss, namely three or four coaches, a locomotive and then three or four coaches and up front a cab control unit. Actually the Swiss still did so after the "accordions" were exchanged for rubber fender, so feel free to jumble the wagons around as you please.
Finally please note that the EW I can be mixed with more or less all other Swiss passenger coaches as well, so do not stick to mixing EW I's with their own kind.

Matching locomotives:
  • Epoche IIIa: Re 4/4-I, Fe 4/4
  • Epoche IIIb: Re 4/4-I, Re 4/4-II, Fe 4/4
  • Epoche IV: Re 4/4-I, Re 4/4-II, Re 4/4-III, Fe 4/4
